After their previous band Rites of Spring broke up , Edward Janney, Brendan Canty and
Guy Picciotto joined up with ex- Embrace, ex- Faith guitarist Michael Hampton to form One Last Wish
in the spring of 1986. The band played its first show in August of 1986
and for the next few months played a total of six concerts. Besides
a series of benefit shows promoted by the Positive Force political collective,
two of One Last Wish's most memorable performances were a concert in
Virginia Beach that took place in the heart of a hurricane and a DC
concert opening for the Screaming Blue Messiahs, where between the two
bands a total of some 5 guitars were destroyed. In November of 1986,
the band recorded 12 songs at Inner Ear Studios with Ian Mackaye
producing. Soon after completing the mixes, the group summarily disbanded.
The resulting tape remained unreleased for 13 years with the sole exception
of one song ("Burning in the Undertow") which appeared on
the "State of the Union" Dischord
compilation. With the release of "1986" the full results of
those sessions are now being made available. After the demise of One
Last Wish, Michael Hampton went on to form the band Manifesto
while Guy, Edward and Brendan went on to reunite with Michael Fellows
of Rites of Spring under the name
Happy-Go-Licky after which Guy and
Brendan went on to join Fugazi.
