Ativin is a predominantly instrumental group that formed in the
winter of 1994 when Chris and Rory met while attending school in
Bloomington, IN. Originally concieved as a two piece (Chris on guitar and
Rory on drums), Dan joined in the spring of 1995 and playing soon
commenced. Material was written and shows took place in the midwestern
United States throughout 1995. December of 1996 saw the release of the
"Pills Versus Planes" CD/EP on Polyvinyl
Records. The CD/EP release was
quickly followed up in February of 1997 with the "Modern Gang Reader" b/w
"Larkin" 7" on Secretly Canadian Records. During the summer of 1997 the
band embarked on a two week tour of eastern portions of the United States
with Roadside Monument, a spectacular band from Seattle, Washington.
Ativin have just released a new record on Secretly Canadian
Records. It's called "German Water" and it's out now.
