As the title suggests, A Day Of Nights is a dark record, one that plumbs depths of bitter despair and trauma; unsurprisingly, given the viciously deteriorating relationship between singer Julie Christmas and guitarist/keyboardist Josh Graham during the recording sessions - towards the end, the two could no longer bear to record their parts together, opting to go into the studio on alternate days. Yet this record is more than an exercise in introspection and destruction; a twisted beauty is forged from the emotional crucible within which it was recorded, creating a mesmerising monument to the power of people to ultimately overcome such problems. At once a harrowing and compelling experience, A Day Of Nights is a must-have for fans of Made Out Of Babies or Red Sparowes, and a fascinatingly powerful record in its own right.
