Skin Graft's Mark Fischer talks about BRISE-GLACE

Band Description:

Confounding expectations, Chicago's BRISE-GLACE recall vanguard rock groups such as Can and This Heat, but speak through contemporary teeth

Overview/ What's Up

BRISE-GLACE is the name of the band featuring avant guitarist Jim O'Rourke and bassist Darin Gray of DAZZLING KILLMEN that I had been blabbin' about for ages. Rnd is rounded out by drummer Thymme Jones (ILLUSION OF SAFETY, CHEER ACCIDENT) and guitarist Dylan Posa (FLYING LUTTENBACHERS) plays on a number of the tracks. The band's debut single and comic book set was released in May and their debut LP/CD When in Vanitas... came out August 29th. Both were recorded at various locations in Chicago and put together at Albini's house by Steve and Jim. The full length also features a host of guests, including guitarist Henry Kaiser and Jims's partner in GASTR del SOL, David Grubbs. The band wowed audiences ( and the rest of us who went on the tour! ) on the recent SKIN GRAFT IRRITATIONAL tour in the U.S. by playing a different set each night. Live highlight for me included Jim O'Rourke actually singing ( MAYO THOMPSON's Dear Betty Baby! ) and their mind blowing show in Cleveland where they played the same riff over and over for at least 30 minutes until MOUNT SHASTA pulled the plug on 'em and started their set. The fellas of BRISE-GLACE have also recorded an album for us with ZENI GEVA's K.K. Null. For more info on that, see the YONA-KIT heading for the scoop. BRISE-GLACE is workin' on new stuff even as I type this, so more should be on the way soon (probably a new LP and 7"). You can also look forward to BRISE-GLACE's contribution to the GASOLINE-BOOSTED SPLIT SINGLE SERIES, the entire Highway To Hell LP in under three minutes(!)
