4. Too Close Enough to Touch (excerpt)
release date: 20 october 2003
"Things Viral" was recorded by the band themselves and mixed
/produced by James Plotkin. With Things Viral, Khanate have managed to
mix extremely advanced songwriting with a precise focus on extreme dynamics.
The "
trademark" Khanate production (clean but crushingly heavy) and the
space between notes are particularly featured on this album. Vocalist
Alan Dubins' screeches are used in a far more emotive manner than on
the last outing. His phrasing and choice of words literally crawls under
your skin. As if you thought different..? Khanate once again has the
slowest tempos humanly possible, played at suffocating volumes. It's
difficult to pinpoint reference points when talking about Khanate, but
if needed:
Imagine Bon Scott-era AC/DC puked through a quaalude binge,
captured in a
studio by Steve Albini. Laugh while you can because after carefully
ingesting this album, chronicle depression will set in. |
