KNIVES OV RESISTANCE

Biography

Knives Ov Resistance (KOR) were conceived in 2004 after London-born Jamaican producer/DJ Spykidelic was asked to contribute a live session for Resonance FM’s 'Burning Decks' show. The programme’s aim was to provide an hour of turntable experimentalism. Spykidelic had been talking to old friend Stuart Souter (music supervisor on 'Dead Man Shoes' for Warp and label head of Transparent Face) and Demian Castellanos (Orichalc Phase, Mesma, The Oscillation) about doing a project together and the 'Burning Decks' session became a perfect opportunity. And so on one fine winter’s day, the three aided also by Rohan Eason and Alex Hutchins of Cyclones recorded the session which would become 'Prisca Sapientia'; completely improvised with no computers and each section done in one take and edited later by Spykidelic (with the exception of “Outremer” which appears exactly as it went to tape). The 'Prisca' sessions were only initially intended for broadcast and never intended for general release. A CD-R found its way to Aurora Borealis because Spykidelic and AB label boss Anthony Sylvester had a brief DJ partnership curiously named Ebony & Ivory (sometimes known also as Two Tone).

Spykidelic has previously collaborated with Robert Hampson (Loop, Main and Godflesh) and Thurston Moore in his 1998 project 'Echo Park', for the Lo Recordings label. He has also produced for Anjali.
