les savy fav

biography

Sometime during the lost cyber-decade of the 1990's, a band formed in the boho-cafe's, head scratching art-studios, and Club Babyhead's of Providence, Rhode Island. The band who, often cite fellow RISDI (Rhode Island School of Design) grads the as their mentors, were in fact heavily influenced by the decadent head-f**k psychos Six Finger Satellite (also from P.). Les Savy Fav would be their name (it means nothing apparently), and they would exist in an american circuit that saw an increasing tendency towards Ennio Morricone alt-country and instro-noodly retro. Les Savy Fav, who with fellow countrymen And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, and L/A/L, were ready to have a race for the most exciting new band since the Jesus Lizard and early Seattle scene. Known for ballistic shows with singer Tim Harrington not letting up on the audience with his existential rants and non-linear soliloquies, ("I'm going to do a G.G. Allin right here!") and the band jutteringlike a amphetemine enhanced Bad Seeds, pandamonium or bewilderment entered on those present.

After a well received initial album called 3/5, the band started getting the attention of the desperate for something new media. Sick of the nice, lovely, and ultimately fairly boring post-rock style bands of the late 90's, the media decided young, good looking rockers, who weren't afraid of the odd Prada shirt to sweat in, were a thing to behold and a wave of enthusiastic press ensued in the likes of Interview, A.P., NME, and Details magazines, with the band not always letting on to what it all meant. Knowing or not that they were fighting against Playstation, new media, and drugfuelled zombie ravers, the band had a battle to win.

To go to a gig, and not feel half way through that a sit-down and a fag was in order due to shellshocked boredom.
