are best known for their several albums on the Seattle independent label
Up Records, and for their major label debut The Moon and Antarctica
(released June 2000 on Epic Records). Prior to hooking up with Up Records
in 1996, Isaac Brock had been recording solo as Modest Mouse
for several years, releasing three home-made cassettes and running a Dial-A-Song
service from
his answering machine. In November, 1994, Isaac recorded at the Dub Narcotic
Studio in Olympia, Washington, with an early version of what became
the band Modest Mouse. Though this line-up included permanent drummer
Jeremiah
Green, this session was prior
to permanent bassist Eric Judy joining the band. John Wickhart
played bass, and Dann Gallucci, who went on to co-found Seattle's
Murder City Devils (Sub Pop), played second guitar. |
