To whom it may concern,
Nomeansno began as a two piece, drums and bass band nearly 25 years ago. Since then, little has changed, so we see the next 25 years continuing to be much the same. Thus, for the forseeable future, we will remain a brilliant, shining star in a cesspool of excrement. Perhaps that is overstating it a little bit but as we look back we can't help but feel...obscure. A dark shadow on a dark wall in a dark room creeping past the blind begging for nickels in a city of gold comes to mind. But I digress...
Under the intense, hegelian scrutiny of guitarist Tom Holliston, the unwavering, homeric verism of bass player Rob Wright, and the uncompromising, spartan fortitude the drummer, John Wright, we bid farewell to our friends and comrades, past and present, at Alternative Tenticles and set course and cloth to what can only and ultimately be utter oblivion. But such is the fate of all who wander and all do wander. Just try to explain that to a 5 year old. There is no mortality in those eyes, just dreams of Lego, wrestling, and the exact time the Simpson's is on. And there lies the dilemma, for I too want to watch the Simpson's and become agitated when the schedule is unclear. Clarity, clarity of mind, clarity of vision, it seems we must put forth all that we have accomplished (in the form of a compilation cd), to revisit the past (re-release the back catelog in Europe), in order to continue onward and wend our way back to the beginning where, I guess one could say, it all began.
I now feel akin to Holliston, Bougie, and brothers Wright. A crease in the fold perhaps, but I'm at ease with my fate. I now twine poetic in the matrix of Nomeansno and speak now at such a pivotal moment in the lives of NMN fans to say, "Fear not! For you know not what lies before the"...oh what a crock, forget it. This is W Buzz Ryan signing off.
