A noisy, humorous, hardcore-influenced band from Washington, D.C.,
No Trend debuted on their own label of the same name in 1983 with the
four-song EP Teen Love, releasing their first full-length album, Too
Many Humans, the following year; both records owed a strong debt to
Public Image Ltd. 1985's A Dozen Dead Roses marked the beginning of
an association with Lydia Lunch, who appeared on the record and signed
No Trend to her Widowspeak label. The EP Heart of Darkness was issued
later that year, also featuring a guest spot from Lunch, and a compilation
of previous material, When Death Won't Solve Your Problems, appeared
in 1986. Lunch's advocacy helped No Trend jump to indie stalwart Touch
and Go that year, which issued perhaps the group's best album, Tritonian
Nash-Vegas Polyester Complex, which featured a wider range of instrumentation
and touches of funk, lounge, and country. - Steve Huey
