For Like, Love, Lust & The Open Halls Of The Soul, Jesse's band (along with guest appearances from Scandinavian cult songwriter Nicolai Dunger, jazz keyboardist Wayne Horvitz, and avant garde violinist/composer Eyvind Kang) explore new sounds with a confident ease, from the lilting first single “You Might Walk Away” to the waltzing sway of “Station Grey” to the hallucinatory psychedelia of “I Like The Sound”.
Open Halls' guitar solos and driving rhythms could easily be lost gems cut by Crazy Horse between takes with Neil, yet the record retains the atmospheric beauty of much of Sykes' earlier work as well.
Jesse, and especially her band mate Bill Herzog, have been long time friends of Greg Anderson (Southern Lord owner/Sunn 0)))) and Stephen O'Malley (Sunn 0))). After working with Jesse, Bill and Phil on the Altar collaboration an even deeper bond of mutual respect was formed, and talk turned to future and further ventures together. The first result is this deluxe 180 gram double vinyl version of Jesse's third full-length album. To sweeten the pot Jesse has recorded an exclusive vinyl only bonus track: “Smiling Serene (Days To Remember)”.
As with all of Southern Lords' vinyl releases this is ultra-deluxe and limited.
