Tara Jane O'Neil &
Dan Littleton
Music for a Meteor Shower
Tiger Style Records
Catalogue: TS-028
Tara Jane O'Neil and Dan Littleton
have been seminal figures in the indie rock scene for some time now.
Tara first surfaced in 1991 as part of the influential,
yet short-lived, band Rodan. Tara
then assumed duties concurrently in Retsin
and Sonora Pine before embarking
on a solo career in early 2000. Over the last ten years or so, one can
see Tara's transformation from post-punk rocker to intimate singer-songwriter.
This album is reflective of her musical progression.
Dan Littleton began his career in the hardcore punk
scene of Washington DC with his band The Hated. Shortly thereafter he
teamed up with his future wife Elizabeth Littleton to form Ida.
After several records on Simple Machines and Tiger Style, Ida are still
running strong, albeit with a brief hiatus for the arrival of Dan and
Elizabeth's daughter, Storey.
It was during this respite that Dan and Tara teamed up for Music
For a Meteor Shower. In August 2000, Dan and Tara recorded
guitar improvisations in West Saugerties, New York one night under a
meteor shower. Then in February of 2001 they spent a week recording
sound in an empty old ballroom in Louisville, Kentucky, again in a complete
improvisational fashion. Finally, in May of 2002 Dan and Tara edited
the tapes and made the record we proudly present to you.
Mostly instrumental, barring the one faux-French, Gainsbourg-esque track,
this album is a warm and cozy affair that aptly fits the title. It's
perfect for those quiet nights looking at the stars where all you want
is a good record to get lost in. We think this could be exactly that
record.
