Biography
Individually, Leviathan and Xasthur are perhaps the most important contemporary solo artists on the black metal scene, both being natural heirs to the bedroom overdubbing approach to recording perfected by the mighty Burzum. They now find themselves riding a new wave of global interest in the genre, and together with artists like Khanate, Nachtmystium and Sunn O))) (both featured as vocalists on the Sunn O))) record Black One) are pioneering a new approach to extreme metal that seeks to escape all accepted boundaries. In teaming up for their collaborative effort on Southern Lord, the pair whet appetites across the black metal kingdom, and the resulting album did not disappoint - a dense, relentless barrage of the darkest walls of guitars and drums imaginable, the record marks a new watershed in the genre.
