Spotlight: Glorytellers - Glorytellers

Spotlight is a new regular feature that highlights forthcoming releases. Not only do you have the chance to find out a little bit about forthcoming albums in advance, but you also get to read a nice review as well!

In this first edition of Spotlight, one of our lovely interns - Leigh - had the chance to review Glorytellers' forthcoming debut album.

Glorytellers

Spotlight on Glorytellers

Boston based Glorytellers are soon to release their debut self titled album on Southern Records. As the band name suggests, their music as well as their accomplished past does have a tale or two to tell. Main man Geoff Farina has previously established a successful career with Karate and Secret Stars. With his talents growing and his skills ever moving forth, Glorytellers displays the development of Farina's song writing maturity and an insight into the extent of his guitar abilities.

The album dives right into the beautifully constructed chord structures that you will come to love as the album progresses. With nods to his influences, Farina's guitar work is warm and welcoming and wades through the records streaming sensibility. "Asleep At The Wheel" secures its place as one of the album's highlights; its ongoing lyrical outlook of obsolete observation appears daunting and confrontational and a brilliant example of how Farina's complex lyrics seem mapped, not simply listed.

Spotlight on Glorytellers "Tears Of..." is also a song that effortlessly stands out. Farina voices his lines in a calm fashion and discreet impact is achieved upon hearing lines such as 'You never could find one good reason to make me proud'. This song represents Glorytellers' sound with hints of near perfect pop.

Subtle intensity, coupled with a soothing musical direction, results in a highly effective body of work. The fragile sound is maintained and is consistent as the record connects with the listener, finding yourself delightfully lost in this record won't be much of a task, as its quality provokes curiosity.

This is an intriguing album and easily addictive from the start - the musical equivalent of turning a frown upside down.

The album is released in the UK and Europe very soon and will be available in the USA from 12th February 2008.
