Song of The Week: Wino - 'Release Me'
First The Obsessed, then through Spirit Caravan, St Vitus and The Hidden Hand. Scott ''Wino'' Weinrich has been a key player in heavy music and now is here finally with his first solo album under his own name, entitled Punctuated Equilibrium.
After The Hidden Hand's demise, Wino set about enlisting the help of some friends to achieve his latest musical vision, people he felt would realize the songs the way he wanted them. In walk Jean Paul Gaster (Clutch, The Bakerton Group) on drums, and Jon Blank (Rezin) on bass. Together they have achieved no minor feat in finishing this stunning record, released through Southern Lord.
'Release Me' is our Song Of The Week, and it is a soulful and powerful journey through Wino's personality. Complete with prime examples of his six-string virtuosity and amazing vocals, if this doesn't convert you to his cause, then nothing will.
