Song of The Week: Tim Hecker - 'Sea Of Pulses'

This year sonic craftsman Tim Hecker returned with his second album for Kranky, An Imaginary Country, and boy was it a corker. After a high-profile collaboration with Nadja's Aidan Baker and albums for Alien8 Recordings, Tim returned to the Kranky stable for his follow-up to Harmony In Ultraviolet, and in my opinion, An Imaginary Country is his best effort to date. Awash with waves of sublime electronica and sheer enveloping walls of sound, this is an album to get well and truly lost in.

The song of the week is a track called "Sea Of Pulses", and never has a song title been so apt. As the first wave of blissful electronic drone hits you, you are lulled into a hypnotic state, and as each subsequent wave of sound surrounds you, you would be forgiven for thinking that no other sound at that time could be better than the one you are hearing now. A religious experience? Maybe. A damn awesome album? Definitely.
