Song of The Week: Bird Names - 'I Had a Girl'

On the menu this week, from some rather rich pickings I might add, we're to treat you to some good old fashioned murder-balladry. All the way from the mean fairgrounds of Chicago, we give you the delightful Bird Names.

Crashing their carnival quietly from town to town, inducing nausea, tinnitus and heart-ache in all those with hearts worth aching, Bird Names have been swooning people into submission for nigh on 4 years now. They returned recently with something rather crackingly chaotic in their 5th album, "Sings the Browns" released by Upset the Rhythm.

Our Song of the Week for you though, is one of those little moments of sweet, warm sunlight that keep spilling out of this album the more you listen to it, the simply titled, "I Had a Girl". Fight your way through the fuzz, claps and taps, and you find your chords struck by a wonderfully sad little tale of love lost, with a tiny wee hint of something more sinister afoot!

Do have a listen to this lovely lil ditty and darken your soul for a couple of minutes, and then head over to the Webshop and pick up the album before your legs give way.

I'm not sure whether he really did kill his beau, or just leave her over by the tombola, but I'd still feel sad for him if he had done her in - can't have been easy after all.
