Boduf Songs - The Strait Gait available on vinyl

Boduf Songs

Good news for my fellow vinyl lovers out there - Boduf Songs a.k.a. Mat Sweet's latest album The Strait Gait is now available in glorious 12 inch form thanks to Latitudes.

Timely splashing cymbals, scratchy guitar sounds and deep thunderous drones, alongside quintessential Boduf; with brooding vocals, crisp plucking acoustic guitar and every detail of every chord transition captured. Both songs on the album are rich in timbre, creating an intense atmosphere for the listener to be well and truly absorbed. Prepare to put needle to groove and be utterly consumed by Sweet and his distinctive neo-folk. But this isn't just folk, Boduf has been said to have an alchemical power to transform a minimal palette of common musical elements into something that is deeply original, something that is not simply 'singer-songwriter' or 'folk'. It is the sonic detail enriching every song that I find most striking about Sweet's music. Inspired by the likes of Will Oldham's early Palace work, his idiosyncratic lyrical style doesn't fit so well into the psych-folk canon as other such Oldham aficionados - Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsome for example, he instead recalls the work of established British eccentrics like Ivor Cutlor, David Tibet and Robert Wyatt. Definitely one for the collection, come June 1st I know exactly what'll be setting my turntables in motion!
