Since their conception in 2002, Wolves In The Throne Room have ascended to the upper echelons of the underground scene by creating a transformative and apocalyptic musical manifestation that has come to completely transcend the black metal label. Merging a visionary Cascadian consciousness with the nihilistic fury of the misanthropic Norwegian eruptions of the 90's, what the band envisioned would encompass more than music. It would be an aural rendering of a personal spiritual journey into ancient mind-states and evolutionary consciousness.

Their latest record, Black Cascade, their third album on Southern Lord, is characterised by a heavy and powerful analogue sound and a deft touch for song writing and arrangement. The crumbling roar of decidedly old-school tube amps unite with layers of mossy analogue synthesiser and cataclysmic percussion. Blazing and crystalline metal riffs slowly collapse and shift into ritualistic dirges that invoke endless rain falling upon the ancient cedars of the Pacific northwest. It is as if the instruments are controlled by shadowy and elemental forces of nature rather than three forest-dwellers from Olympia, Washington.

And now, WITTR are back with a new set of European dates. Coming from a band who has said that they would prefer that the audiences at their concerts would prostrate themselves on the floor and cry, the shows are transcendental and ethereal. Incendiary. Miss them at your peril.
