Mat Sweet lives in Southampton, England. He sent kranky a CD of recordings he made at home in early spring 2005. Boduf Songs (it's got something to do with spaniels) put our jaws on the ground. Recorded at home with a guitar and a computer, the songs struck us with their memorable melodies, artful arrangements and the carefully placed computer transformations that lend an air of surrealism to the album. Very few songs can hold up under the attention that minimal instrumentation brings. Avant garde gestures often go to waste when they aren't connected to music people can identify with. This album bypasses both those roadblocks. The songs stick in your mind and the lyrical content and musical techniques unveil themselves every time you play the album.
